Huge Congratulations to Lada Volkova on being named a finalist for the Auckland Student Coach of the Year at the Annual College Sport Auckland Young Sportsperson of the Year Award. This is a fantastic achievement and one that is fully deserved.
Lada’s nomination blurb read:
Lada is a selfless student who was awarded ACG Parnell College’s Inaugural Student Volunteer of the Year award for many reasons, including coaching. Lada coached two netball teams in 2019 on top of playing for the Senior A team and fitting in her Year 13 studies which she is working hard in to gain a scholarship overseas.
Lada is an extremely positive coach both on and off the court. She supports players from the side line, helps new girls learn the game and is often also picking up the whistle to fill in for refereeing duties. She has such a positive approach to empowering the players to perform at their best.
Lada also possesses communication skills that are second to none for her age as well as natural empathy with the girls in her teams. Her players are often seen asking Lada for advice or giving her hugs around campus, showing the level of trust and respect the girls have for their coach. Lada has also taken time to extend her knowledge in the game and develop coaching skills through attending Auckland Netball Umpire Qualification courses in the past.
She will be missed next year as she heads off to University. Lada has been an extremely positive role model for everyone at ACG Parnell and her efforts have always been wholehearted. She has displayed the school values of consideration, respect, loyalty and integrity, perseverance, leadership and teamwork to the maximum both on and off the netball court as a coach and a player.
