KBB Festival

Our advanced competitive Music ensembles have been busy all year working towards the well-known KBB Music Competition.  The competition is held in the Holy Trinity Cathedral and hosts over 4500 performers in 50 groups across four divisions.  This year, we entered one group in each division; our Big Band, Senior Concert Band, String Theory and our brand new Symphony Orchestra.  Each ensemble played exceptionally well.  The performances were polished, energetic and beautifully shaped.  At the close of the week, we were delighted to hear that all four of our ensembles were on the awards list.  At the close of the galas on Saturday night, our ensembles received:

Big Band – Silver and ‘Best Performance of a NZ Work’ for their performance of Neil Watson’s ‘Wes d’ Money’

String Theory – Silver

Concert Band – Silver

Symphony – GOLD and ‘Best Performance of a NZ Work’ for their performance of David Hamilton’s ‘Coming Together’

Thank you to the ensemble directors and mentors for your inspiration and dedication to these groups. Bravo to all of the musicians, nearly 100 students, who performed last week. The performances were superb. Your work ethic, commitment and aspirational attitude is admirable. You have all done our school proud!
