Over the last two weekends, the Concert Band, String Theory Chamber Orchestra and Choir have all spent a weekend of intensive rehearsal at MERC camp in Long Bay in preparation for upcoming concerts and competitions. In addition to the focus on developing musical skills, the camps provide a valuable opportunity to build a sense of musical community, collaboration and trust, which are absolutely essential in ensemble music making. Year 13 student and member of the Choir, Trisna Claney, says that, “through music, I have made friends who I will be connected to forever. The camps teach me how to work with groups and appreciate people of all different varieties. To me, cooperative skills I learn at camp are absolutely essential to the changing world we live in”.
